Join us on October 13th for our first ever Downtown Sweat Crawl. Inspired by community, collaboration and charity, we’ve conjured up a complimentary day of (downtown) sweat.

When brainstorming how we could participate in Sweaty Saturday (details below), we committed ourselves to creating something outside the box that celebrated our downtown fitness community - and also gave back to our greater community. We loved the idea of orchestrating a Downtown Sweat Crawl that allowed us to (1) collaborate with our neighborhood fitness studios (2) offer this amazing day of sweat to our community - free of charge and (3) enlist our fitness community to raise funds and awareness for childhood obesity (each participating sweat crawl studio will make a generous donation to HealthCorps).

What is Sweaty Saturday?

Sweaty Saturday™ is the first day New York City is devoting entirely to fitness, health and wellness. Sweaty Saturday™ on October 13, 2012 brings together New York City’s finest fitness studios, health brands and wellness experts. Studios will offer special classes and amazing music, and there will be plenty of nutritional advice, limited- edition goodies, raffles and giveaways.

And, while you’re doing your body good, you’re also doing something else equally valuable:

A portion of the proceeds from Sweaty Saturday™ will go to HealthCorps, whose national wellness movement helps fight child obesity and bring awareness to schools nationwide.

The company culture we have created at Bari is an extension of who we are as a team. Individually, we care about the arts, we’re compassionate and love meeting new people, and most importantly, we take care of ourselves and love all aspects of living a healthy lifestyle. Together, we’re supportive and excited about small things, constantly looking for new inspiration, and applying what we learn to what we love: Bari.

We found this sign around the corner from the studio on Monday night, on our way to dinner as a Bari family after a long day of work (we’re really taking this month’s inspiration of family to heart). I kept thinking about how beautiful it was and decided today to go back and see if it was still there.

Life is beautiful, it’s true, but what specifically draws my attention is that the sign is made of natural objects. In New York City we’re constantly surrounded by the unnatural: concrete, construction, city life. It’s humbling to find a small reminder to enjoy the natural beauty too. At Bari, we work towards a healthy and natural life, and this sign inspired me so much I almost want to take it and put it at our front door…

I hope it stays and continues to inspire people on the corner of Hudson and Franklin Street for a while. We all need a reminder to appreciate the beautiful things in life from time to time.
