Set Yourself Up For Success

First things first: You’re pretty awesome, Tribe.
I’m constantly blown away by our Tribers’ discipline, commitment and ability to create habits. But none of those three things are born by coincidence: Discipline, commitment and — most importantly — habits are bred by the choices and actions that we repeatedly and consistently take.
Every year I watch our #bariddicted October sweat challenge serve as one of the best examples of this collective drive and commitment. We’re in the final stretch of the sweat challenge, and we’re all feeling pretty accomplished. Seeing those tallies sprawled across the Bari Sweat Wall with reckless abandon for order or space (you know you’re sweating a lot when there’s not enough room for your hard-earned tallies!) is a good reminder that we’ve all put in some good, old-fashioned hard work this month. And it’s this hard work that will create a strong base for long-lasting habits.
Now it’s time to set yourself up for success.
How do we carry October’s momentum into November and beyond? How do we ensure that this month’s actions turn into next month’s habits? It’s simple: Set yourself up for success.
Looking for a good starting point to create habits that stick?
1) Start small and be realistic. If you constantly find yourself prioritizing other things on your to-do list over your workout, make it less overwhelming by choosing a schedule that truly works for you. Think about how much time you want to spend working out in one week, and make sure that it’s aligned with how much time you can actually spend working out. Then set a goal you can stick to. Twice or three times per week is a great starting point to really form a habit. Write those two or three hours into your schedule as “mandatory workouts.” If you feel like adding an extra workout in, go for it — but view your “mandatory” appointments as non-negotiable workouts.
2) Sign yourself up for a Bari Monthly. Bari Monthly packages allow you to take a certain number of classes per week. Not only are these packages by far the best deal on the menu, but they offer you a commitment structure that gives you an extra incentive to stick to your weekly goal.
3) Sign up for class in advance. I think one of the hardest things about working out is actually getting to the gym! It doesn’t matter what workout you’re doing, how much you love it or how close it is to your house. Our intention is always to be healthy and to work out. But turning that intention into an action is difficult to do. Sit down on Friday before you leave the office, open your calendar and decide which classes you’re signing up for the following week. Sign up, add them to your calendar, and treat them as you would any other important meeting.
4) Have faith in what you’re doing. Once you start, and you’re visiting Bari a few times a week, it’s important that you stick to your goal. You’ll feel challenged, and you may feel impatient. Some days you’ll be hard on yourself, and other days you’ll feel proud of how quickly your body is transforming. Give yourself a break, trust the method and be patient. Sticking to a healthy lifestyle is a big change, and one that’s worth it on more levels than we ever realize. So have faith, and Bari on.
Have a great week, Tribers! See you in class.
