This is Why We Macro By bari | May 3, 2012, 7:16 pm the-body
Our method at Bari was built upon research, experience, movement, the pursuit of fun… and more research (yea, we’re nerds like that).
So, when the New York Times wrote an article about research findings on the effectiveness of mixing aerobics and strength training, we unsurprisingly geeked out a little bit.
To preface this, the combination of strength and cardio training — when done in close proximity of each other — has been hotly debated in the fitness world for some time now. Many competitive athletes operate under the belief that aerobic conditioning, done either before or after strength training, deters our muscles from strengthening and growing. On the other hand, some endurance athletes think the consecutive combination of strength and aerobics thwarts cardio endurance gains.
Two of the most recent studies conducted on the subject show that cardio training done in close proximity to strength training has no impact on muscle or aerobic fitness gains. In fact, the combination of the two may allow us to do less of each form of exercise for the same fitness benefits.
We knew we liked Macro for a reason.
